What is Sin, and why do I need to repent?

At the beginning of the Bible we read a story about Adam and Eve. God created them to be is representatives and image bearers on the earth. The goal God set for humanity is to be His faithful representatives. The problem, which you may be aware of, is that the first humans who received this goal and calling failed. They sinned. Every human since that moment of failure has been born into sin. No longer do we reflect the image of God’s, holiness, righteousness, goodness. We reflect selfishness – fear, control, brokeness, and in the end these things lead to death.

Jesus lived as the perfect human, without sin. 1 Peter 2 tells us that in His death, he entrusted himself to the one who judged justly. He took responsibility for our sin, and our missing the mark, to pay the price for us. Jesus did this in his death on the cross.

He defeated death, and was resurrected to life again! Because of this, he now offers us his grace and new life so we can once again represent God as his image bearers. Righteous and free from sin.

Because of Jesus, sin no longer has a hold over our lives! We can walk in freedom and wholeness as God's images on the earth.
