The Heart of Mission

Notes

The Purpose of Heart of the House

Habakkuk 2:2-4 - Write the vision and make it plain that he may run who reads it.

Proverbs 29:18 - Where there is no revelation (prophetic vision), the people cast off restraint (perish).

Mission Statement: building relationships with God, one another, and the world.

Core Values:
Mission
Worship
Servanthood
Stewardship
Generations

Ephesians 2:19-22; 4:11-16 - The community is a gathering of people that have centred their faith on Jesus Christ. He then builds His Church through this community of followers who become a functioning body called the Church.

Koinonia, by definition, is all about relationships, Partnership in the Gospel, communion, and the shared life of Christ.

Koinonia is found many times in the New Testament, translated several ways and applied to a variety of contexts. (Acts 2:42; 2 Corinthians 6:14; 2 Corinthians 8:4; Hebrews 13:16; Philippians 1:5; Ephesians 3:9; 2 Corinthians:13:14; Philippians 2:1; 1 Corinthians 1:9; 1 John 1)

Acts 10 - Called to a Mission

"Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." "Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean." The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean." This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven." (Acts 10:13-16)

Matthew 26 - Training for the Mission

But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee." Peter replied, "Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will." "Truly I tell you," Jesus answered, "this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." But Peter declared, "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." And all the other disciples said the same. (Matthew 26:32-35)

Matthew 16 - Core to the Mission

”But what about you?” [Jesus] asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. (Matthew 16:15-18)

The Mission is Clear:

  1. Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and Saviour of all people.

  2. We will be met with challenges as we fulfill the Mission.

  3. God will anoint, bless, and pour His Spirit out on all people who hear, believe and receive Him.

We are building a place to belong to.

The Great Commandments

Matthew 22:36-40 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart...Love your neighbour as yourself

John 13:34-35 - A new commandment that will change the world

The Great Commission

His assignment to go with His message, His good news (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-18; Luke 24:46-49; John 20:21-23; Acts 1:4-8)

The Great Commandments and Great Commission require Great Commitment.

GRACE (Ephesians 2:8-10), SPIRIT (Zechariah 4:6), ACTION (Habakkuk 2:2-4)

The solution for living for God and with people is found in the Great Commandments.

All the characteristics of a healthy church are found in the Great Commission:

  • The Authority of Christ

  • Evangelism with signs following

  • Discipling of all nations

  • Baptizing in the name and submitted to the name of Jesus

  • Teaching to be obedient

The Koinonia Principle

Our vertical relationship with God is incomplete without our horizontal relationship with each other.

"Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." (Ephesians 4:3)

God wants us to be a church that is accessible and relevant to people around us. He desires us to be continuously growing, effective in our impact and faithful in producing fruit.

God includes us in His plan to redeem mankind through His Son Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:18-20 - The ministry of reconciliation has been given to all followers of Christ. God is giving the invitation to the world through us. We are all ambassadors for Christ.

God created the local church to be a key instrument in His plan.

We want to be a church that is reaching, discipling, equipping, and releasing people into God's purpose and destiny for their lives!
